Make Kids Count: Children’s Healthcare Canada Commends Ontario Investments in Children’s Health
July 19, 2023
(Ottawa, ON)
Children’s Healthcare Canada applauds the leadership of the Ontario government for acknowledging the on-going crisis in children's health systems and committing funding towards addressing persistent capacity challenges.
This announcement of $330 million by the Ontario government is a historic investment in children’s healthcare and the right step forward to strengthen an undersized system that is supporting the needs of a growing population of children and youth in Ontario.
“Investments in children’s health systems are desperately required, from coast to coast. Today’s announcement will help to augment capacity in acute care and address lengthy backlogs for essential services within children’s hospitals and community-based organizations across the province,” states Emily Gruenwoldt, President and CEO, Children’s Healthcare Canada.
Children’s Healthcare Canada strongly urges other jurisdictions across Canada to take note of Ontario’s leadership today, making kids count. In February 2023, Prime Minister Trudeau announced up to two billion dollars to address the pediatric crisis. Other jurisdictions are encouraged to leverage these resources provided by the federal government for their intended purpose: to measurably enhance the health and overall well-being of children. By working together, we can create a nationwide impact that ensures every child in Canada can thrive.
